Explore the heart of the Pinetop-Lakeside Community

Woodland Lake Park today offers a mix of recreation and features throughout more than 100 acres but has been the heart of the community for decades. Now, a playground, volleyball courts, ball diamonds, tennis/pickleball courts, disc golf, and trails, along with shaded ramadas, restrooms, and plenty of parking are available. The park also includes a pier and bridge for fishing, when water levels allow. To reserve spaces such as ramadas and fields, visit the Town of Pinetop-Lakeside for details and availability.

Woodland Lake’s water level and what is being done.

Why is Woodland Lake so low now?

Woodland Lake receives water from springs through ditches maintained by a local irrigation company, plus rain and snow storm runoff. During periods of drought, such as those eastern Arizona and the entire state have experienced for more than two decades, the lake’s water is drawn down for irrigation customers in Navajo County, who have the highest “priority” for the water.

As of the beginning of 2026, the lake is nearly dry. Currently, alternate sources of water and ways to augment keeping the lake viable are being studied. The goals are to refill the lake and keep it as a source of recreation and community enjoyment. This is a challenging time for Woodland Lake Park, the Town of Pinetop-Lakeside, and the National Forest Service. Still, the Town is the best lead steward for the park because of its management capacity, complementary community services and amenities, experience with trails and nature programs, emergency services, and wildfire preparedness.

Through partnerships and community support, Woodland Lake Park can thrive far into the future. Without the partnerships supporting Woodland Lake Park and the commitment to its future, the park lands could deteriorate and face development pressures, leaving the community without recreation at its heart.
